Identify 2-3 key points that Mirzoeff makes and discuss what interests you about them.
#1 Photography progression in modern day society, direct image vs. the selfie.
Mirzoeff compares and contrasts NASA’s Blue Marble photograph with Hoshide’s ‘Untitled’ selfie, which were captured 40 years apart. I found this key point interesting as it made me reflect on today’s society, and how we are so caught up in our own lives that we forget to live in the present and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. The contrasting photographs display the change in the way society views the world. (Mirzoeff 8).

#2 Society is visual rather than verbal.
Mirzoeff highlights the idea that the ‘’emerging global society is visual’’ (Mirzoeff, 2015, p.6). This quote stood out to me as it made me realise that nowadays society, particularly youth, communicate their thoughts and emotions through imagery over the internet rather than choosing to communicate verbally, face to face. We tend to hide behind our screens rather than face our problems head on. (Mirzoeff 6).
